Once again, Old Colony will be a part of East End Yard Sale, which is Charleston' biggest yard sale held. This year marks the 24th anniversary for this event, which will be held on Saturday, May 10 from 8am until 2pm rain or shine. This event is held in conjunction with East End Main Street and the East End Community Association.
For over 20 years this event brings thousands of treasure seekers and bargain shoppers to Charleston's historic East End district in search of items such as furniture, clothing, and household items from the over 200 sellers and vendors. Old Colony supports many organizations through both financial donations, volunteer opportunities for agents and through special projects. It is our intent to give back to the local community we serve as these are our family, friends and neighbors.
One important project Old Colony embarked on in 2014 is putting together the Old Colony Cookbook, which is part of the 70th Anniversary celebration for Old Colony. Agents from every office in West Virginia submitted their favorite recipes and in turn we created a multi-ethnic collection of entrees, appetizers and desserts. There will be French, Dutch, Indian and British recipes among the ones featured in the book and these recipes are an interesting change from the regional cookbooks one can usually find in West Virginia.

On Saturday, April 26, the Tri-County YMCA is holding a free community event to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active. YMCA's Healthy Kids Day® , the Y's national initiative to improve families' health and well-being, features games, healthy cooking demonstrations, arts and crafts and more to motivate and teach families how to develop a healthy routine at home.
YMCA's Healthy Kids Day, celebrated at nearly 1,600 Ys across the country, aims to get more kids moving and learning, so they can keep up the habit all summer long – a critical out-of-school time for kids' health. Research shows that without access to out-of-school physical and learning activities, kids fall behind academically. Kids also gain weight twice as fast during summer than the school year.
