Charleston, WV Charities - Giving Tuesday - Old Colony REALTORS

At Old Colony REALTORS®, our real estate agents strongly believe in giving back to our community. While there's no bad time to support the many local agencies that do so much for those in need, "Giving Tuesday" is a popular day for donors to come together and make a real difference.

This national movement compels millions of observers to take a break from the buying frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and set aside a day to celebrate generosity and giving. It's held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and has become a tradition that's growing in popularity year after year.

If you've been looking at Charleston homes for sale, now is a great time to get to know some of the area's most important non-profit organizations. Here are a few of our favorites.

  • Read Aloud West Virginia: 1700 MacCorkle Ave. SE, Charleston, WV 25314
Read Aloud WV supports literacy by keeping books in children's hands and motivating them to read. They do this through important programs, including volunteer readers, book distribution, classroom enrichment, public education, and community outreach. Every year, this organization serves 29 counties, 208 schools, and touches the lives of students in over 1,000 classrooms.
  • Stepping Stones Canine Fosters (West Virginia)
If animals are your passion, you may wish to support Stepping Stones Canine Fosters. This is an organization of volunteers throughout West Virginia committed to rescuing and fostering dogs and puppies in need of homes. Some rescues are available for adoption through Stepping Stones while others are sent to other local rescue organizations. Every year, this organization helps over 500 dogs and puppies find safe and loving homes. They also spay and neuter all of the dogs they rescue and fully vet homes prior to allowing adoptions.
  • Manna Meal: 1105 Quarrier St., Charleston, WV 25301
Manna Meal is a soup kitchen that provides two meals a day, 365 days a year, to anyone who needs help—no questions asked. They serve an average of 400 balanced, plentiful meals every day to men, women, children, families, and seniors. Manna Meal relies solely on contributions from the greater Charleston area. They also operate a volunteer-based community garden and provide food pantry bags to those in need.
  • Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of West Virginia: 1 Clay Square Charleston, WV
Those wishing to support arts and culture may wish to make a donation to Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of West Virginia. In pursuing their mission to "inspire creativity, learning, and wonder through experiences in the arts and sciences," this organization provides residents of the West Virginia region with access to museums, a planetarium, live performances, and more.
