Founded in 1970, Cato Park is one of the most popular parks in Charleston. With 90 acres to explore, there's plenty for everyone in the family to discover and enjoy. The park features picnic areas, a beautiful playground, and a seasonal swimming pool that is perfect for cooling off in on a hot summer's day. - Coonskin Park - 2000 Coonskin Drive, Charleston, WV 25311
Open from dawn to dusk, you will have plenty of time to relax and explore the trails throughout Coonskin Park. At more than a thousand acres, it is one of the largest and best-maintained parks in the area. The park features an amphitheater, fabulous swimming facilities, and shelters that are perfect for everything from family reunions to wedding celebrations. In the spring, summer, and fall, you can play 18 holes on the park's Executive Par 3 course. There are also concerts, nature activities, and a winter light display that is the talk of Charleston.
- Kanawha State Forest - 7500 Kanawha State Forest Drive, Charleston, WV 25314
Kanawha State Forest is without a doubt one of the most beautiful pieces of real estate in West Virginia. The park features plenty of places to camp and more than a few meandering trails to explore. Like many of the parks around Charleston, there are trails specifically for hikers, and trails earmarked for bikers. All you have to do is decide whether you want to walk or ride through the harmonious woodland scenery. Located just 7 miles from Charleston, this is a great place to get away from the city and enjoy the peace and quiet of country life.

Located just off of Spring Hill Avenue, Little Creek Park is a popular meeting place for residents of the west side of town. Open from March 1st through October 31st, the park is home to the baseball, soccer, and football fields of the Frank A. Mullens Jr. Athletic Complex. It also has multiple tennis and basketball courts, a soapbox racing facility, and one of the best 18 hole disc golf courses in the south. Everything is connected to a series of trails that take you through the handsomely groomed woods and pleasant picnic areas.
